I began working at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in MA in 2016 as a Recreation Therapist working mainly with adults who had survived stroke and TBI. Being drawn toward pediatrics, I left a year later to provide Recreation Therapy at the Kennedy Hope Academy in Boston - a locked mixed diagnosis unit (psychiatric diagnosis and autism spectrum disorder combination) for children with an ABA (applied behavioral analysis) focus. From there I transitioned within the same hospital to run the Recreation Therapy program at the Kennedy Day School, a school for children with severe to profound physical, cognitive, and behavioral limitations. For the past 5 years, before my move to Spain, I ran the Child Life department at Shriners Hospitals for Children - Boston, a department comprised of Child Life, Music Therapy, and Recreation Therapy. While I am no longer physically working at Shriners, I am heavily involved in several research projects surrounding the topic of procedural support and the benefits of community reintegration.
My sessions are always tailored to individual needs and interests and I am strongly influenced by music, the arts, and community integration/reintegration. I am comfortable working with all ages though prefer pediatrics and adolescents. As mentioned above, my specialties are pediatrics, trauma, and physical rehabilitation. I also enjoy incorporating my certified therapy dog, Holly, into my sessions when appropriate.
I look forward to the opportunity to use the skills I've learned over the years to be of service to you!
